lyrics

Years ago I came from what used to be this place
One day I was here then gone without a trace
I'm feeling like I shouldn't step into this space
I have memories I wish I could erase

I could not accept the meaning of my name
Because it is a word that caused me so much pain
Part of me vanished when I leaned into my shame
Hoping that my struggles weren't all in vain

I was so tired from trying to earn love
I gave all I have but it was not enough
So I tried to get some help from above
But I lacked the faith when push came to shove

Walking on the path to opening the door
I wonder what has changed since I was here before
Inside me is a longing I cannot ignore
Beyond what I've been taught that there is something more

Take me back to where my story begins
It seems this long road has led me here again
It's hard to explain the places that I've been
If you hear me knock I hope you'll let me in

For Paula, music is a way of reaching a wider audience with messages of social justice themes, as well as expressions about the complexities of life and love.
